Is narcolepsy lifelong?

Narcolepsy is a long-term nerve disorder that makes it hard for the brain to control when you sleep and wake up. Most people with this disorder will have it for their whole lives. People who have narcolepsy often feel sleepy during the day, have rapid sleep attacks, and have other symptoms like cataplexy, sleep paralysis, and hallucinations. There is no cure for narcolepsy yet, but people can often live full lives with their symptoms under control by making changes to their lifestyle, taking medicine, and changing the way they behave.

Different people with narcolepsy can have very different symptoms and levels of intensity. Some people may also notice that their symptoms change or get better over time. As long as the condition is managed well, it can greatly improve a person’s quality of life and help them deal with the difficulties of having narcolepsy. It’s very important to get ongoing help from doctors and sleep experts in order to make treatment plans that work best for each person.
